Story Problem Studio

Grade 6 story problems

Problems built around the structures students actually stumble on, in contexts worth thinking about. Every one comes with the answer, the solution path, and the wrong answer most of the class will produce.

GRADE 6

1Pick a problem structure

Grouped by what makes the problem hard, not by topic. The structure is the thing students trip on — the context just decides whether they care.

2Your problem

Edit anything. The diagram redraws from the numbers, so if you change those by hand the figure may no longer match — press New numbers to get them back in step.

3Show the class

Full screen, large type, diagram included. Teacher notes stay hidden until you ask for them — press N or the button.

4Build a packet

Collect problems as you go, then print the set. A parallel pair adds two versions of the same situation — one asking a single question, one asking two — so a class can work at different entry points and still debrief together. The student version has working space and no answers; the teacher version adds the answer, the solution path and the likely error for each one.

5Save & share

The whole problem — wording, answer, notes, diagram — packs into one code.
